Revaluation of All Values Today: Philosophical Investigations into Contemporary Civilisation
      • Overview of the research

What might it mean to undertake a ‘revaluation of all values’ under the conditions of contemporary civilisation, and what possibilities might such an undertaking open up? Drawing on Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, the Kyoto School and Charles Taylor, my research critically examines the conceptual space and systems of value presupposed by contemporary civilisation, tracing their historical formation. On this basis, I consider the possible consequences of civilisation in its present form and examine the conditions under which culture might flourish. Rather than simply evaluating particular social values, the project seeks to question their deepest conceptual and evaluative foundations and explore the role philosophy might play in opening up alternative cultural futures.
