  Seed dispersal by animals and forest regeneration in Madagascar

• Overview of the research

  The island of Madagascar has been geographically isolated since the Mesozoic and the biota has a unique structure as compared to other tropical forests. I have studied the ecology of lemurs in a tropical dry forest in northwestern Madagascar. My research has focused on key roles of frugivorous lemurs as the largest seed dispersers in Madagascan forests. At present, I examine plant-animal interactions via seed dispersal by analyzing relationships among animal behavior, animal ecology, life histories of plants, and forest regeneration.
