        Structural analysis of the measles virus membrane fusion initiation complex to elucidate the mechanism of host cell infection
      • Overview of the research

        The aim of this study is to elucidate the mechanism by which measles virus infects cells. To this end, we will prepare the H–F complex and determine its three-dimensional structure using X-ray crystallography. We will then compare the structure of the complex with the known structures of the individual proteins to develop a hypothesis regarding the mechanism that regulates membrane fusion. Finally, we will generate mutant viruses based on this hypothesis and test it through cell-based infection assays.
