Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) Professor
Professor KANTOUSH has been working at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) of Kyoto University since 2014. He is collaboratively leading water and sediment-related disasters. Prof. Kantoush is actively involved in projects related to flash flood management in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Prof. Kantoush's expertise also covers reservoir sedimentation, hydropower, dam management, dam impacts, and environmental restoration issues in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan. Professor Kantoush’s industrial expertise is predominantly pertinent to Wadi flash floods, integrated flood and sediment management, dam upgrading projects, reservoir sedimentations and sediment management techniques, and river projects. Professor Kantoush's research groups focus on achieving the resiliency of hydraulic infrastructures, water systems, river ecosystems, agriculture production, and local communities under changing climate and multi-hazard environments through smart monitoring, smart mitigation measures and strategies, developing new upgraded dams and reservoir systems, and guaranteeing the natural sediment dynamics to improve river ecosystem conditions. His research interests span flood and sediment management at the river and Wadi basins.
