Graduate School of Medicine, Medicine Senior Lecturer/ Junior Associate Professor
I started my research on MRI in the field of gynecological and female pelvic MRI under the supervision of Prof. Kaori Togashi and Prof.Evis Sala. Since then, I have been interested in oncology imaging /womens' imaging and MRI. While I was in University of Cambridge in the UK under the supervision of Dr. Ruth Warren, I worked on epidemiological analysis of mammography data, examining the relationship between mammographic density and genetic factors and between vascular calcification and cardiac events. I was also involved in a few multicenter collaborative studies. Since returning to Japan in 2011, I have been serving as a chief of breast imaging, involved in research, clinical work, and education in breast Imaging, with an emphasis on breast MRI. Currently, my research themes are #1) ultrafast dynamic contrast MRI of the breast #2) non-contrast MRI diagnosis including diffusion-weighted imaging #3) dedicated breast PET as a screening tool or pre-operative diagnostic imaging tool, and #4) multiparametric imaging combining information of multiple sequences (modalities) to improve diagnostic accuracy.
Development of guidelines in the fields of diagnostic imaging and breast cancer is another my field of expertise. I have been a member of guideline committee of Japanese Radiological Society (from 2013) and Japanese Breast Cancer Society (from 2018). I believe that clinical guidelines help to connect research evidence to clinical practice.
My academic and social activities include serving as a reviewer / an editor in peer-reviewed journals, as a committee member of major societies - ISMRM, RSNA, Japanese Radiological Society JRS) , Japanese Breast Cancer Society (JBCS), Japanese Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (JSMRM), Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine (JSNM) etc. Recent major roles include a board member of JSMRM (from 2020) , a chair of diversity promoting committee (from 2022), a board of trustee ISMRM (from 2023), an exective member (special appointment) JBCS (from 2023), and a co-chair of AI working group in future planning committee of JBCS (from 2022).
