      • Overview of the research

        植物、藻類、シアノバクテリアなどの光合成反応は人類に快適な地球環境を維持する上で不可欠な自然現象であり、人類はその反応様式や物質基盤について学ぶことで、環境問題、エネルギー問題への対処法を探索せねばならない。天然の光合成は高い効率を保ちながらも環境要因(光強度、光スペクトル、無機栄養条件)等に応じて様々な変化を示す。このような柔軟に変化する様相を、細胞内構造も捉えながら生理的条件で観察するには光学顕微鏡と分光学を組み合わせた顕微分光が非常に有力な研究手段である。葉緑体やシアノバクテリア細胞内部の光合成反応を詳細に理解するために最適のレーザー利用顕微分光システムの開発を進めるとともにその有用性の実証実験も行うことで、これまで知られていない天然光合成システムの性質を明らかにする。
