      He received his doctorate in physics from Kyoto University in 2003. His research interests include stochastic phenomena in nonlinear dynamical systems, fluctuation and probabilistic computation in the brain, neuro-inspired, or neuro-morphic computation, and learning algorithms for neural networks.

      • Overview of the research

        The brain is a highly complex network composed of a huge number of neurons and synapses. Rapidly developing technologies in neuroscience give us detailed knowledge of the network structure and activity of neurons and synapses. However, significant questions still remain elusive: how does our brain work; how does it learn; what is the nature of neural computation; and what is intelligence. Here, we are trying to answer to these questions. We integrate neuroscience, mathematics, information theory, machine learning, computer science, and physics to find answers of these questions. In other words, we explore a frontier of an interdisciplinary research field of computational neuroscience. We are seeking underlying principles of intelligence with combining latest findings of neuroscience and rapidly developing theories of computer science including machine learning or artificial intelligence.
