    • Profile

      「ストラクチャーは木材の特性や多様性の根底にある」との信念から、分子レベルからマクロレベルまでの構造とそれがもたらす機能について興味があります。セルロースの分子鎖を顕微鏡でみるという研究に始まり、結晶構造モデルの提案、生合成や生分解機構との関連、木材物性の発現機構など、浅学は否めませんが興味の対象を広げてきました。最近は、もっぱらマクロ構造に興味津々です。植物が環境に適応するために最適化した「かたち」と多様性には意味があるはずですが、漫然と見ているだけでは読み取ることは難しいです。そこで人工知能を利用して、大量のデータから帰納的に内在する法則のようなものを引き出すことができないかと考えました。木材学と情報学をうまくつなげれば、樹種の判別、分類、年輪解析、劣化診断、物性予測など、さまざまな分野に役立つ可能性があります。
