京都大学 大学院教育支援機構 奨励研究員、オーストラリア モナッシュ大学 訪問研究員、日本学術振興会 特別研究員DC2、京都大学 大学院文学研究科 特定研究員を経て、現職．
研究分野は発達心理学、発達科学、認知科学．「わたしとは何か」「生きるとは何か」「世界とは何か」といった主観的な問いについて、クオリアや意識の発達の観点から研究している．

私は、意識と意識の神経メカニズムの発達を、3~12歳の子どもと成人を対象に、実験室やオンラインの心理学実験と神経活動計測を組み合わせて、研究しています。バックワードマスキング法や時間順序判断法などによって、主観的に刺激が見える条件と見えない条件を作ります。その際の、刺激の判別課題 (何が見えたか) の成績を客観指標、主観的な見えの報告 (見えなかった～はっきり見えた) や確信度 (回答への自信) を主観指標、脳波や脳血流動態を神経指標として、3指標および3指標の関係がどのように発達するかを検討しています。また、刺激に幾何学図形や色、数字や文字、動物や乗り物、風景画像など、さまざまな刺激を用いることによって、意識の生じ方の違いや、意識が持つ情報量の大きさなどの発達的変化を明らかにしたいと思っています。視覚的意識の発達の知見を他の感覚に拡張することや自己意識との関係を検討することで、包括的に意識の発達の解明に挑戦しています。
★目指す研究者
私は、「学際的で国際的に活躍する研究者」と「次の世代の研究者を育てる研究者」、「研究と現場、家庭をつなぐ研究者」を目指しています。
学際的かつ国際的に活躍する研究者：意識の発達の解明には、発達科学と神経科学を中心に、心理学や哲学、情報学など多くの学問分野の知見が必要であり、私一人では解決することは困難です。私自身の学際性が重要であることは当たり前ですが、国の垣根を越えて、各分野の研究者および学際分野の研究者と協力して意識の難題に挑む必要があります。また、意識と発達の両方に深い理解のある私が意識の発達研究の国際的なリーダーとして研究を進めていくことは、科学の進歩に繋がると考えます。
次の世代の研究者を育てる研究者：次の世代の研究者を育てることも研究者の教育者としての役割です。大学院生やポスドク研究者の就職や経済的な問題は深刻であり、私も、働きながら苦しい状況のなかで時間を捻出しながら研究を行っていました。この状況では、日本の研究力は維持さえできなく、どんどん下がっていきます。私は、次の世代の研究者に、研究の技法とおもしろさを指導するだけでなく、彼らが研究に集中できる研究環境と研究生活を守りたいです。
研究と現場、家庭をつなぐ研究者：言葉の話せない乳児や、あるいは、自分の気持ちをうまくコントロールできない、伝えることができない幼児や児童、複雑な葛藤で苦しんでいる思春期や青年期の子どもや若者の意識体験を現場や家庭に共有することで、子どもや若者だけでなく、彼らに関わる教育者や養育者の負担を軽減できると私は考えます。子どもや若者が生きやすい社会になるために、意識の発達研究は重要な知見を社会に貢献します。ブログ
