I support and facilitate clinical research in Kyoto University Hospital as a member of the Institute for Advancement of Clinical and Translational Science (iACT). In the department of cardiovascular medicine, my role is the PI in heart failure lab. The goal of the research is the improvement of the prognosis of heart failure through basic and clinical research. As a post-graduate student, I carried out the comprehensive analyses of metabolic remodeling during the transition of left ventricular hypertrophy to decompensated heart failure in rat model. I recognize the importance of mitochondrial function through the work and continue to investigate the mitochondrial function of the heart and skeletal muscle. As a physician-scientist, I feel heart failure is becoming a big medical and social problem in developed countries. The large scale registry and clinical trials as well as the actual daily medical practices are important for the improved outcomes in heart failure.
