Research Topics
The process of formation and reception of oral arts such as storytelling and chanting, drama, prose, and vernacular fiction during the Yuan and Ming dynasty in China.Overview of the research
In China, during the Yuan and Ming dynasty, oral arts such as storytelling and chanting, drama and prose, and vernacular fiction were published in large quantities, underwent a period of stylistic and thematic refinement. They are rich in social satire and also serve as mirrors reflecting contemporary society, and were embraced by people from a wide range of social strata, from anonymous commoners to court nobles. Through the critiquing textual variations across different editions, investigating the circumstances surrounding publications and analyzing the social background, we clarify the process of formation of each work and its reception at that time, aim to establish accurate interpretations of the texts and explore their significance.
