Development processes of debris flows, failure processes of landslide dams (natural dams), and sediment-related disasters following volcanic eruptions.
Overview of the research
Field observations and flume experiments have been conducted to advance the understanding of the development processes of debris flows and the failure mechanisms of landslide dams, while also developing numerical simulation models capable of predicting these processes. In recent years, research has been further promoted on the mechanisms of sediment-related disasters in volcanic regions and their mitigation strategies, based at the Hodaka Sedimentation Observatory located at the foot of the active volcano Mt. Yakedake.
