Dr. Jin-ichiro Yamada is a leading scholar in entrepreneurship whose research has received numerous academic awards in Japan and internationally. He has held senior leadership positions in two of Japan’s leading academic associations in management and organization studies, serving as Vice President of the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs (JASVE) and in a senior executive role on the board of the Academic Association for Organizational Science (AAOS). Alongside his academic work, he has served as an outside director of publicly listed companies and as a member of national committees concerned with science, technology, and innovation policy.
He received his B.A. in Accounting from Chuo University in 1995, followed by an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Management Studies from Hokkaido University in 1997 and 2000, respectively. He began his academic career at Hokkaido University as a Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). In 2000, he joined the Faculty of Economics at Kagawa University as a full-time Lecturer and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008.
His international academic appointments have included Visiting Scholar at Cranfield University School of Management in the United Kingdom in 2002, Visiting Professor at Bordeaux Management School in France in 2007, and Visiting Professor at Griffith University in Australia in 2019. He has also held research appointments at Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
In 2010, Dr. Yamada joined the Graduate School of Business Administration at Osaka City University as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2016. In 2024, he became a member of the External Advisory Council of the Robert T. Huang Entrepreneurship Center at Kyushu University. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Business Venturing Insights (JBVI, Elsevier).
Through these academic, policy, corporate, and international engagements, Dr. Yamada continues to contribute to the advancement of entrepreneurship research and education in Japan and internationally.
