Fatigue behavior involving interlayer slip in van der Waals layered materials
Overview of the research
Van der Waals layered materials exhibit unique deformation behaviors due to their highly anisotropic layered structures. In particular, interlayer slip can be reversible, suggesting that these materials may exhibit fatigue behavior distinct from that of conventional metals and polymers, in which fatigue typically involves the accumulation of irreversible damage. For example, cyclic loading may alter their mechanical properties without causing fatigue failure, and these changes may recover after unloading. This study aims to clarify the characteristics of fatigue behavior involving interlayer slip and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of fatigue and subsequent recovery.
