Jaw and Occlusal Reconstruction Using Photofunctionalized Titanium Implants: From Basic Research to Clinical Application, Japan society
Makoto Hirota
This presentation highlights the application of photofunctionalized titanium implants in jaw and occlusal reconstruction, bridging basic research and clinical practice. Ultraviolet (UV) photofunctionalization enhances the biological activity of titanium surfaces, promoting osteoblast attachment, bone formation, and osseointegration. Based on experimental findings, we have explored the clinical potential of this technology for implant-supported rehabilitation, particularly in patients with compromised bone conditions following jaw resection or trauma. The presentation discusses the biological mechanisms, preclinical evidence, and clinical outcomes of photofunctionalization, emphasizing its potential to improve implant stability, predictability, and functional rehabilitation in complex oral and maxillofacial reconstruction.
