Profile

• Profile

  Ryota Sakamoto received his medical degree at Tohoku University, followed by his doctorate at Kyoto University. He had been working in the Kingdom of Bhutan, a place he had longed to visit since his childhood. In Bhutan, he strove, in cooperation with local residents and the Ministry of Health, to improve the health of the community-dwelling elderly. He believes that ASEAN countries, Bhutan, and Japan can encourage and support and learn from each other to create a bright future. His research interests are on Field Medicine.

  Creation of the Health Care System for the Community-Dwelling Elderly in the Kingdom of Bhutan

• Overview of the research

  Assistant Prof. Sakamoto’s project aims to formulate a health care system focused on providing health checkups for the elderly in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Such health checkups are important opportunities to identify health problems and prevent disease, disability, and death. The system aims to include elderly people with mobility problems who are unable to visit healthcare facilities. Dr. Sakamoto hopes that the program will help strengthen bonds among community members in Bhutan.
