Urban planning and urban policy, including compact city and area management.
Overview of the research
My research is about how the urban planning and urban policy should change in the changing society of Japan with depopulation. Once popular methods such as planning and regulations are now being gradually replaced by softer methods utilizing incentives and private-public cooperation. One of the most interesting themes is how the area management can contribute to revitalizing aging Japanese urban areas.
