        Intracellular Ca2+ stores
      • Overview of the research

        Ca2+ release from the endo/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR) controls important cellular functions including muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, membrane potential regulation. Although Ca2+ store functions in the ER/SR are constituted and further modulated by many proteins, such mechanisms are largely unknown at the molecular level. We focus on the ER/SR in excitable cell type and attempt to identify the roles of their protein components towards understanding the molecular basis of Ca2+ stores. Results from our studies contribute to both identifying target proteins for drug development and unveiling pathological mechanisms in genetic and metabolic diseases.
