        Research on Megathrust and Slow Earthquakes in Subduction Zones and Their Applications for Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Mitigation
      • Overview of the research

        In subduction zones, megathrust earthquakes and slow earthquakes interact, influencing seismic and tsunami hazard risks. This research aims to understand the mechanisms behind these seismic events and apply the findings to disaster mitigation. By utilizing cutting-edge observational data, we analyze the rupture processes of megathrust earthquakes and the spatiotemporal distribution of slow earthquakes while assessing the characteristics of seismic shaking and tsunami generation. Furthermore, we strive to enhance earthquake forecasting and disaster information systems based on these findings, contributing to the reduction of earthquake and tsunami disaster risks.
