      • Research Topics

        Advanced research for D-amino acid residues in protein
      • Overview of the research

        Proteins consist exclusively of L-amino acids; nonetheless, D-aspartic acid (D-Asp) has been detected in various human tissue from elderly individuals. We have developed original D/L analysis systems and identified many isomerization sites in proteins, while pathogenesis has been still obscure. The formation and contribution of D-Asp residues in proteins would be one of significant factors of age-related disease. The goal of our study is to observe actual physiological effect of D-Asp formation in protein, and relate D-Asp residues with age-related diseases.
