        1. プロスタグランジン受容体の生理と病態での働きの研究
        プロスタグランジンは体内で刺激、とくに、侵害刺激、に応じて合成され、生体機能の調節を行っている活性物質群である。成宮は、これらの作用を介達する全8種の受容体を同定し、プロスタグランジンを介する発熱、痛み伝達、陣痛招来、止血・血栓形成、免疫、アレルギー、骨形成、大腸ガンの進展、ストレス行動の制御メカニズムを明らかにした。
        2. 低分子量G蛋白質Rhoのシグナル伝達と働きの研究
        Rhoは分子量22, 000の蛋白質で、細胞内の分子スイッチとして働いている。成宮は、Rhoの特異的阻害薬を発見し、これを用いて、Rhoが細胞の接着、移動、収縮や細胞質分裂を制御していること、また、この経路が、高血圧の発現、細胞の癌化、癌細胞の転移などに働いていることを明らかにした。
