  Nitrogen dynamics in highly-weathered tropical soils; Pedology in humid tropics; Eco-friendly agriculture based on the biogeochemistry of ecosystems

• Overview of the research

  I am trying to understand soil ecosystem processes with the aim of developing sustainable land use systems in tropical forest areas (especially Asia and Africa) where agricultural land conversion is progressing rapidly in response to rising food demand. In order to secure food production and minimize the environmental load of agriculture, it is essential to clarify the characteristics of the soils developed there and the biogeochemical cycle of the natural ecosystem. And then, I would like to propose a land management system that suits there. Therefore, the goal of my research is to elucidate the biogeochemical processes of various natural ecosystems depending on the geology and climatic conditions, and to establish agricultural management systems. In recent years, I start to work in the mountainous areas of Japan.
