      • Overview of the research

        Natural products, for which synthetic methods have not yet been established due to their complex skeletons, continue to attract attention due to their purely synthetic chemical interest. On the other hand, in recent years, re-emerging infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and leishmaniasis have become social problems, and the number of multidrug-resistant bacteria that are difficult to treat is expected to increase in the future, making the development of drugs with new mechanisms of action a much-desired goal. Considering the background, we are conducting research on the total synthesis of natural products that have unique and complex structures for which synthetic methods have not yet been established, and that have important biological activities (e.g., activities that can be used as seed compounds for drugs against infectious diseases). We are also developing synthetic methodologies to simplify the total synthesis.
