      光合成、特に電子伝達鎖の柔軟な制御機構に興味を持っている。植物を材料にした生化学と分子生物学が専門であるが、物理や化学などの異分野の研究者との研究交流を積極的に行うことで新しい切り口にチャレンジしている。植物が何億年もかけて完成させた光合成を、急変しつつある地球環境と人類の利用にあわせて再デザインするのが目標である。

        Understanding of environmental response and adaptation mechanisms in photosynthesis and their applications
      • Overview of the research

        The aim of our study is to understand how plants optimize and stably use the light energy conversion system for photosynthesis under fluctuating environments. The current major topics are: 1) Structure, function and evolution of photosystem II complexes responsible for the oxygen evolution reaction in photosynthesis, 2) Analysis on the suppression of ROS production from photosynthetic electron transfer chain under environmental stresses, 3) Development of genetic engineering techniques for marine diatoms, understanding of their photosynthetic functions, and construction of a material production system using these techniques.
