        Seismic behavior of soil-foundation system, Soil liquefaction, Multi geotechnical hazards induced by rainfall and earthquake, Multiphase computational geomechanics
      • Overview of the research

        Main research interest is multi-phase coupled problems such as unsaturated soil mechanics. The research uses finite element modelling as well as experimental techniques including centrifuge modeling. These techniques are applied to study soil liquefaction, embankment failure and soil-structure seismic interaction, combined disaster induced by rainfall, earthquake and tsunami etc. Recent studies are to understand the ground and structure behaviour under different external forces with time difference such as earthquake after rainfall, rainfall or tsunami after earthquake, to develop dynamic numerical analysis of various structures on saturated/unsaturated ground based on porous media theory with finite deformation, and to improve reliability of numerical simulation based on uncertainty quantification (UQ) with Verification & Validation (V&V) method.
