        endogenous retrovirus silencing
      • Overview of the research

        Histone posttranslational modifications play crucial roles in epigenetic regulation of chromatin structure and function. H3K9me3 is required for the DNA methylation-independent retrovirus silencing in murine ES cells. In non-embryonic cells, however, H3K9me3 is not always necessary for prohibiting retrovirus from derepression.
