      • Overview of the research

        In microspaces, viscous force, surface tension, conduction heat transfer, and molecular diffusion become dominant. These features achievable in microspaces make it possible to handle highly exothermic/endothermic and rapid reactions and to produce fine particles with narrow size distribution. The final goal of this research is development of a fundamental approach to design, operation, and control of micro chemical processes. So far, computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based design methods have been developed to derive the optimal channel structure, shape and size of microreactors. In addition, the data-based and model-based monitoring systems that can achieve the long-term operation of microplants have been developed and installed in pilot plants.
