        次の分野について,理論研究を中心として探究しています。

        (1)母語習得および外国語学習のメカニズム。
        (2)聴覚・視覚・触覚による言語認識のメカニズム。
        (3)言語と音楽の音声認知メカニズム。
        (4)Multimodal/Multisensory教授学習支援システム。
        (5)理論的基盤を持つ英語カリキュラム設計・評価と英語科教員養成。

        協力・連携研究教育機関は,国立特別支援教育総合研究所,生理学研究所,NHK放送技術研究所,工学系大学及びメーカー等です。

        こうした研究の成果を,教育や福祉など,広く社会へ還元しています。国費留学生を積極的に受け入れ、国際的な知見の普及にも努めています。

        言語習得理論を専門としていることから,獲得していく言語は英語に限定しません。日本語習得,外国語としての日本語,英語以外の外国語学習も研究対象としています。
