• Profile

  １９９８年からアフリカ、エチオピアでものつくり（土器つくり）の技法の伝承と学習について、とくに身体技法に着目して調査研究をすすめてきました。現在は、地域の資源をもちいた製品製作など実践的な活動にも従事しつつ、技術の導入や村人によるそれらの受容の仕方を検討したり、それらの技法や知識を共有したり再配分するグループの形成過程にも注目してフィールドワークをおこなっています。

• Research Topics

  Anthropological study on craft-works, Transmission and creativities of techniques of body, local knowledge and its practices, indigenous technology and development

• Overview of the research

  Using a participant–observer approach, Dr. Kaneko has examined local knowledge and techniques in Africa as social behavior by analyzing the practice and the history of body techniques employed to make crafts. Her current fieldwork is focused on women potters in Ethiopia, and her main areas of concentration include the cultural transmission of knowledge, technological innovations related to body techniques, local knowledge about pottery making, the logic and practices governing the sale of crafts at local markets, and the socio–cultural marginalization of craft workers in Ethiopia. Dr. Kaneko is also conducting research on local practices designed to stimulate the economy in the Iwaki submontane district of Aomori in Japan. She is also examining approaches to compiling regional histories that are based on individual life histories.
