        Elucidation of novel molecular mechanisms that regulate cell division and cell proliferation
      • Overview of the research

        IQGAP family proteins, comprised of IQGAP1, 2 and 3 in mammals, are known to be involved in diverse cellular functions. Among them IQGAP3 is the least studied to date, and our previous studies have clarified that this protein is important for cell proliferation and cell division. We have identified its functional effectors, but the molecular mechanisms with which IQGAP3 exerts its function are still poorly understood.
        It is very important to understand the structure of these molecules in order to clarify this point. Therefore, in our research we express and purify the recombinant proteins of IQGAP3 and its effector molecules, and analyze the structure of the complex, so that we can understand the mechanisms of action of IQGAP3 at the structural level.
        In this way, we want to elucidate the mechanisms of molecular functions of the signaling molecules at the three-dimensional structure level, based on the findings obtained from cell biological analyses. Recent studies have revealed that IQGAP family molecules have additional interesting functions. We have succeeded in identifying the effectors that directly bind to and control IQGAP in performing its function. To clarify the mechanism of this regulation, we are currently conducting cell biological and biochemical analyses of the mechanism of the formation and regulation of these complexes, as well as conducting structural analyses of these complexes by expressing and purifying recombinant proteins.
        Through these studies, we want to elucidate molecular functions of IQGAP proteins.
