      • Research Topics

        Application of genome editing technology to the fisheries industry.  Development of gene expression technology using medaka and creation of model organisms including human disease model medaka.
      • Overview of the research

        By making full use of genome editing technology and gene introduction technology, we will elucidate the gene functions of aquatic organisms, and use the obtained knowledge to create aquatic organisms that contribute to the fishery industry. First, we will conduct basic research on medaka, a model organism, and apply it to farmed fish such as red sea bream and tiger puffer fish. So far, we have succeeded in producing red sea bream with increased muscle mass and high-growth tiger puffer fish. We are also trying to create a human disease model medaka, and are verifying its effectiveness as a disease model.
