Profile
I am working on antiphonal singing of Buyi people living in China, Japanese in Akita Prefecture, and Lao people in Huaphan Province in Laos. I am interested in reciprocal singing performance from the perspective of Linguistic and Musical Anthropology.

Reciprocal singing performance in China, Japan and Laos
Min'yō society in Akita PrefectureOverview of the research
The performing arts are a minor subject of study in cultural anthropology, but they are a very interesting practice in which the various contexts of the people are inextricably intertwined. I have been studying the language and music used in the folk songs of Guizhou Province in China, Huaphan Province in Laos, and Akita Prefecture in Japan, as well as the societies that support these performing arts, crossing various disciplines as necessary.
In addition, since 2016, I have been conducting research on the practice of min'yō (folk song) singers in Akita Prefecture, with a particular focus on min'yō conventions. This one is trying to clarify how "minyō" today is connecting people.
