        History of Education in Modern Japan, Transformation of Life Course along with social change, Analysis on discourses and representations

      • Overview of the research

        I study on social functions of education and schools in modern Japan from historical and sociological point of view. My research interests are mainly the following two. First, I research about the relationship between the two functions of the school, which are the function of fostering children and the function of selecting them. The second is the question of how historically the social meanings making to the category of "children" and "youth" have changed. I am strongly interested in how the meaning of experiences of "education at school" were different according to gender or social class, and how they changed with times.
