      1985年京都大学医学部卒業。臨床研修を経て92年京都大学大学院医学研究科博士課程内科系専攻修了。同年、同免疫研究施設助手。93年米国NIH研究員。96年京都大学助手。97年同助教授。2001年より大阪市立大学大学院医学研究科教授。2008年より大阪大学大学院生命機能研究科/医学系研究科教授。2012年より現職。2018-2022年京都大学医学研究科長・医学部長、2022年から京都大学理事・副学長。ユビキチン修飾系と鉄代謝・動態制御機構の研究を推進する。ユビキチンでは、ユビキチンシグナリング、ユビキチンによる炎症制御機構、NF-κB活性化機構、直鎖状ユビキチン鎖形成異常による自己炎症性疾患、自己免疫疾患の発症機構。鉄代謝・動態では細胞の鉄調節機構、鉄貯蔵タンパク質フェリチンの運命決定機構、フェロトーシス、フェロトーシスを制御するセレン代謝調節、鉄と老化・老化関連疾患の研究に従事しています。生物学のみならず化学、臨床医など多様なバックグラウンドを持った人たちと、原子間相互作用から個体まで広い視野か先入観を持つことなくサイエンスを見つめて研究を進めたいと考えており、種々の分野からの若い人たちの参加を待ち望んでいます。

      • Overview of the research

        The ubiquitin system was identified as a part of energy dependent degradation system. However, it is regarded as one of the most sophisticated reversible post-translational modification systems that regulates protein functions in various ways. Ubiquitin modifies proteins as ubiquitin chains in most cases. We have identified a brand-new linear ubiquitin chains and found that the linear chains regulate signaling (NF-kB activation and suppression of cell death). Also, abnormal generation of the linear chains underlies disease including autoinflammatory diseases, autoimmune disease and cancer. We also working on cellular iron metabolism and it is involvement in ferroptosis.
