Shun Hongo is a conservation scientist in Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) and Kyoto University Hakubi Center for Advanced Research. Earning his PhD in Science from Kyoto University in 2016, he has worked for Kyoto University and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He is a field ecologist studying mammals in tropical forest countries, including Cameroon, Gabon and Colombia.
To establish a sustainable management system of wild mammals—an essential source of food and income for rural people in the Congo Basin—he seeks to integrate scientific methods such as camera trapping and practical knowledge of indigenous and local people.
