The Center for African Area Studies Program-Specific Assistant Professor
Shun Hongo is a field ecologist in Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University. He earned his PhD from Kyoto University in 2016 and worked as a researcher at Kyoto University Primate Research Institute and as an expert for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He now joins a bilateral collaborative project between Cameroon and Japan. To establish a sustainable management system of wild mammals—an essential source of food and income for rural people in the Congo Basin—he seeks to integrate scientific methods such as camera trapping and practical knowledge of indigenous and local people.
