        植物の環境応答、生理生態学、森林生産、バイオメカニックス、多種共存機構、進化など、幅広い視点から、植物とそれを取り巻く環境について、研究している。特に(1)植物多様性の創出機構や維持機構、(2)生態系の生産力を決定する要因に強い興味がある。生化学や物理的などの基礎科学を軸に、生態学や進化学的な視点をもち、農地を含む様々な生態系を包括的に理解したい。またその知見を人間社会に役立てることにも強い関心がある。
