Hidenori HARADA, B.Eng in Environmental Engineering, MS and Ph.D. in Global Environmental Studies, currently being associate professor at Kyoto University. Adopting interdisciplinary approaches, he has been conducting field-based research on sanitation and water-related issues in Asia and Africa, such as Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Zambia, Malawi, and Uganda. Recent research topics include sustainability of resources-oriented dry sanitation in rural areas, on-site sanitation & fecal sludge management (FSM) in cities, greenhouse gas emission from sanitation services, and participatory diarrhea risk management research in urban slums. Currently, he is appointed as a member of the strategic advisory group of the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (JMP), and the UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS), which are official mechanisms to monitor SDG 6.1, 6.2, 6.a, and 6.b.
