      • Research Topics

        Specialized in structural geology and experimental rock deformation. Our recent study focuses on structure and rheology of faults, frictional behavior and fluid-flow properties of the fault zones in subduction zones.
      • Overview of the research

        A structural geologist specialized in experimental study of rock deformation. I am primarily interested in the problems related to the evolution and the mechanical behavior of faults developed in the shallow earth's crust.
        My research currently focuses on the following :
        (1) Experimental studies on frictional properties of rocks at seismic slip rates
        (2) Investigation of the seismogenesis of plate boundary faults: Nankai Trough (IODP Exp. 316) and Costa Rica (IODP Exp. 334)
        (3) Investigation of the frictional process of ancient plate boundary faults: e.g., Shimanto accretionary complex, Japan, Gohst Rocks formation, Kodiak Island, Alaska
        (4) Experimental studies on the frictional heating process along active faults.
