NMR study in strongly correlated electron systems including high-Tc superconductors, low- dimensional quantum spin systems, and metal-insulator transition systems
Overview of the research
We are studying stornogly correlated electron systems using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. We mainly investigate transition metal oxides, which shows metal-insulator transitions, superconductivity, and low dimensional magnetism, focusing on quantum phase transitions and quantum critical phenomena. Unlike conventional phase transitions, quantum phase transitions are induced due to the application of pressure or atomic substitution. Pressure is an important parameter to investigate quantum phase transitions. A piston-cylinder-type pressure cell has a large sample space and allows us to perform NMR measurements in similar conditions to those at ambient pressure. However, a maximum pressure is at most 3 GPa. We succeeded in NMR measurements up to 4 GPa by applying a steady load on a pressure cell.
