Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS), Department of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability Associate Professor
Associate Professor (PI), Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS, "Shishu-kan"), Kyoto University
Head, Well-being Research Division, Social Innovation Center (SIC)
Dr. Kenji Mizumoto leads the Global Health Design Research Group, focusing on infectious diseases and social health challenges. His research integrates individual- and society-level risk analysis through interdisciplinary methods that span mathematical epidemiology, statistics, machine learning, sero-epidemiology, and high-resolution sensing technologies such as ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning.
His core contributions include:
High-resolution modeling of infectious disease dynamics
Empirical measurement of close contact and behavior
Quantitative assessment and implementation of social health interventions
He led the data analysis of large-scale field studies conducted by Okinawa Prefecture, including school-based PCR screening and regional antibody serosurveys. His work also includes estimation of reproduction numbers and asymptomatic infection rates aboard cruise ships, and empirical evaluation of contact definitions using ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning.
As Head of the SIC Well-being Division, he engages in applied research on global health, disaster response, and child abuse prevention, and drives academic–industry collaboration through the Evidact project. This initiative provides an evidence-based framework for implementing healthcare solutions in society.
